This is a more detailed step by step tutorial for the wings It splits the video tutorial into individual phases for you to follow along with and help you draw the wings. This is a good way to see the evolution of the drawing in each of its phases. You can use this with my video to see how I do it. For this drawing you will ned a 2B or 3B pencil, or a pencil set, an eraser, an A4/A3 sheet of paper and a blending stub or tissue (or you can just use your finger).

Good Luck!

Step 1: Right Wing Outline phase 1

To start off, draw a rough, light outline to show the general shape of the wings. Once you have drawn this, start to draw in the feathers that run through the outline of the wings. In the inside corner, add feathers the curl around, keeping the spike like shapes thin and elegant. The key to drawing wings is varying the shape and size of the feathers while keeping them elegant and sharp.

Step 2: Right Wing Outline phase 2

Use the outline just to show the general shape, you do not need to keep to it strictly. Along the top of the wings, add smaller feathers that grows as they go downwards. Try not to keep a straight line on the top part of the wings.

Step 7: Shading Right Wing phase 2

Continue this process, for all of the feathers of the wings. Make the shades longer as you go downwards in the wings. Add in a few lighter shades here and there.

Step 4: Left Wing Outline phase 1

For the left wing, follow the same process as the right wing. start off with the outline and then move inwards and down. Remember to vary your feathers.

Step 3: Right Wing Outline phase 3

Once you have the outline of the wings, draw in the rest of the feathers. Vary lines between thick and thin, dark and light. Vary your size and shape of the feathers. Keep the feather long and elegant or short and wavy. Use a variety and do not keep to a pattern, meaning obvious layers in the feathers.

Step 5: Left Wing Outline phase 2

Once you have done the outline, start moving in to the main body of the wing. Again move downwards and and inwards and vary the line, shape and style of the feathers along to make the wings look more natural. It does not have to be symmetrical.

Step 6: Shading Right Wing phase 1

To shade, this time we will not have to use a blending tool of any sorts so you can keep away your blending stub or tissue. Using a darker pencil, preferrably 3B, then use dark shades for the wings. The main shading will come from the shadow underneath each feather. Vary the shape of the shadows and add extra lines that runa long the shape of the feathers. Leave some without much shading to add variety.

Step 8: Shading Left Wing phase 1

Once you are happy with the look of the right wing, repeat the same process witht he other wing. Remember it will not be symmetrical so you can do some different shading for this wing. the style should be the same though.

Step 9: Shading Left Wing phase 2

Keep continuing the process while varying your shading technique. This is a very quick and easy way to shade and is good for rough sketches. It gives it a slight cartooney/anime look when finished.

Step 10: Final Outcome

This is the completed set of wings. This is a slightly different approach to normal, and is better for quick sketches. The techniques learnt here should be applicable to any other drawing you do. I encourage you to keep on practicing with other visual references and check out my other tutorials if you liked this one.
